Who knew I would be so busy after I retired? Actually, sometimes I'm not "busy", but I'm doing many things that I enjoy. I've been walking every day, for several weeks now. That's something I want to continue, year round.

I'm doing a lot of reading, too. There are SO many great books. I've been a member of a book club for over a year now and I enjoy it so much.

Well, onto the card I made this morning. 😀

I used some stamps and dies from Concord & 9th. First time using these, even though I've had them since mid-December! The set is called Parcel of Petals. Even the little envelope die is included.

Since my favorite color is purple, I looked through my stash of card stock for shades that would work together for this bouquet. Life just got very, very busy. I've been continuing to create cards, but I've not taken the time to photograph my cards or share them. Now that I'm retired (YAY!) I hope to get back to blogging regularly. Fingers crossed!

Anyway, if you're still subscribing after all these years, here are a couple of cards I created recently.

This is a card I made for one of our great-nephews. He's turning two years old in just a few days. That cute patterned paper is from Simple Stories. The critter is by Reverse Confetti and the die is from PTI. I don't often color images, but I challenged myself to use my Prismacolor pencils and some Gamsol to blend the colors. I definitely need to practice!

Now, I'm finally getting into Christmas card mode. It seems early, I know. But it takes quite a while to make the number of cards that I need. So, earlier is better.

Both the background stamping and the heat embossed greeting are from Simon Says Stamp. No paper crafting post this time.

I've always loved photography. Most of my cousins probably remember me taking a lot of photos at family gatherings, over the years! I've not taken any photography classes, although I would like too. I saw the following link-up over at Apple Apricot. It's a blog I've followed for a long time, because of the beautiful photos everyone links up.
This link up seemed like the perfect excuse for me to head outdoors to look for some photo opportunities!
Below, is my neutral photo. I took this a couple of days ago, in a local park, during a very early morning walk. The weather was warm and humid, but the sunrise was beautiful as I made my way back home from the park.

I am such a morning person; always waking early. So, on the weekends I head out the door at sunrise to enjoy all that nature has to offer. The fresh air, sunshine and the sounds of many bird songs. Beautiful!

Since I already enjoyed using distress inks, I KNEW I wanted to do more with the oxides. So, I've been watching videos by Jennifer McGuire and Kristina Werner to learn as many techniques as I can. A few weeks ago, I attended the StampScrapArtTour. The Ranger booth had so many more colors of oxides, than I can find locally. I took advantage of the opportunity and picked up a WHOLE lot more of those inks. I also bought the Tim Holtz glass craft mat. After using my new inks and the glass mat all of yesterday afternoon....I'm hooked. These inks blend like butter and look so soft, but yet rich. Wow!

For three of the cards I'm sharing, I used techniques that I learned from videos by Jennifer McGuire. HERE is a link to her YouTube channel.

I used ink blending over heat embossed images on this first card. After blending the ink, I painted the leaves and flowers using just water.

For the next two cards, I blended several colors of distress oxide ink onto a card stock panel, then spritzed a stencil with water and placed it onto the inked panel. I pressed and held it in place for a minute or two, to wait for the water to be absorbed into the ink. The result is a "lifting" of color where the stencil was placed. It's subtle, but very pretty. You may have to click on the photos to get a larger view. It's much prettier in real life.

This was such a fun technique and much easier than I thought it would be. I looking forward to doing more of this!

My last card today is much different than the previous cards. For this one I heat embossed my image using clear embossing powder. Then, using a water brush, I colored the image with distress inks. Just smoosh some onto a craft mat and pick up color with a wet brush. I rarely color on black card stock, so this was quite an experiment for me. It's something I might have to play around with a bit more, to see what else I can do.

Well, now you know how I spent my Saturday afternoon! I had planned to host a crafting day at my home yesterday, but the snow storm that was forecast changed those plans. Thankfully, we didn't get any snow. That was a very NICE surprise!

I've missed it so much! I did make some Christmas cards this year. But not nearly as many as usual. Life has just been so full!

Anyway, during this break from work I've managed to carve out some time to spend at my craft table. I'll share what I created this weekend...most of them I made today.
All of these cards feature some of Stampin' Up's designer series papers. The patterns are so varied and so pretty. I think my favorite of these cards is the masculine one, using the Wood Textures dsp. On two of the "wood" strips I layered two pieces of cardstock beneath the panel to add some dimension to the card. That card was fun and SO easy to make.

The other papers are from Stampin Up's Painted Autumn DSP, as is all of the cardstock. All of the sentiments are Papertrey Ink.

Thanks for taking a look!
For several weeks I tried to decide what kind of gift to buy. Something a little different; not wanting to give a duplicate of what someone else might have chosen.
Finally I had an idea. A mini album. It would be a personal and unique gift AND I love creating these little albums. This is only the third one I've created and I learn something each time I've created one. Little tweaks to help the process and, hopefully, improve the final product.
These are so much fun to create. But if you decide to give it a try, be prepared to devote quite a few hours to the process. It really can't be hurried and, personally, I wouldn't want to hurry it. It's a labor of love and the entire process brings me so much joy.

A couple of years ago I came across a video tutorial by Wilna Furstenberg. HERE is a link to her blog post, which includes the video. I had never even thought about attempting to do scrapbooking, much less create a mini album....from scratch. Her project originally caught my attention because it was coffee cup themed. That's what hooked me. Then I realized what a unique gift a mini album could be. And, since this was a small album.....maybe I could attempt this. One thing led to another and now I've made a total of three albums. I've strayed far from the coffee theme, though!

Well, I got quite wordy. Enough talk. How about a few photos? Actually, quite a few.
You've been warned. :)
For the recipient's privacy, I've blurred the name on the album cover. This album measures approximately 5" x 7" closed. The first album I created was smaller. Since I was new to mini albums, a smaller project wasn't quite so intimidating!
The lace I used on this cover, I also used on the baptism card I made.

The following photos are the pages. I've included a couple of closeups of some of the smaller details or textures. You can click on each photo to see a larger pic.
On most of the pages I used a combination of quotes (found on Pinterest and printed on photo paper), stamped images and die cuts. A few pages have "gems" for a bit of bling, and one page a piece of lace and some pink tulle (tucked behind the top of a quote). That page is one of K standing in front of a window in a pink tulle dress. She's absolutely adorable. I can't even describe what a blessing she is to her family and all of us around her.

If you stayed with me throughout this long blog post...thank you. I hope you enjoyed taking a look at what I created. Maybe you'll try your hand at creating a mini album? I hope so.
I created a "just because" card to give to a friend of mine. Just because...it's been a while since I gave her a card!
I hope it will brighten her Monday. The weekends go SO fast, so it can be challenging to jump back into the work week.

I created the rays of sunshine in two steps. First I blended Barely Banana ink onto the white cardstock to get a layer of soft yellow. Then, using the edge of a piece of printer paper I layered on "rays" of Crushed Curry ink. Just moving the paper over a bit each time and adding each ray until I covered the top half of the panel.

My sentiment is stamped onto a die cut cloud panel, to which I added a few yellow and clear sequins.

It's just a simple card and was easy to create. But it's one of those cards that just makes me smile. I hope it brings a smile to my friend's face, also!

A few weeks ago, several of my crafty friends joined me for a day of stamping, talking and hanging out. I love spending the day with them! Sometimes we create a lot of cards/projects. Other times, just a few. It kind of depends on how much time we spend just talking. Imagine that.

My friend Ellen brought along several pieces of some gorgeous paper that she created in a paper making class that she attended. This paper is so very pretty.
I love the textures and the blend of colors. I had been trying to decide just how to use this gift of hand crafted paper. Last weekend I decided to add to my supply of sympathy cards and I knew (right away) that I wanted to use these papers.

I created 4 cards; 2 of each style.

I knew I wanted to keep these cards clean and simple, so that the hand crafted paper is the focal point. I simply tore the edges of 2 sides of the piece, in keeping with the natural edges that already existed. There is a piece of gold thread looped and placed behind each sentiment panel.
The only other addition is a bit of glossy accents over the flower on each of the first 2 cards.

These cards came together just as I planned, which doesn't often happen. And I love the results!

Thank you to my friend Ellen for sharing some of this treasured paper. Aren't crafting friends wonderful?

It was a fun technique using watercolors or (in this case) distress inks, water and watercolor paper.

This is what I created.

I learned the technique from a video by Betsy Veldman for Papertrey Ink.
This technique isn't difficult, but it did take a bit of trial and error to get the effect I wanted. Since I love playing with color, it was lots of fun! HERE is a link to the video.

For my cards I used Ranger Distress Inks. But there are many options available. Any color medium that will blend with water, I would think.

That's it for today. Thank for taking a look!
Yes, finally!

It's the City Crafter Challenge Blog Birthday CASE #4 (week 359) and we're casing a beautiful card created by Marina.

It's so feminine and pretty, isn't it? I immediately thought of lace when I looked at the cake image on Marina's card. So that's the direction I took, as you'll see below.
Marina's colors are soft and subtle, but I decided to go a bit bolder with my color choices. This card has lots of dimension! I cut white card stock for each of the cake layers; covered each with teal felt, then over that I wrapped lace and ribbon trim. The cake "plate" is a piece of gold foil paper. After stamping the candle flame I added some Stickles to give it a little sparkle and shine.

It was fun to finally get back to my blog and play along with a challenge.
Thanks for stopping by!
It's been months since I've shared a card on this blog of mine.
I still love creating and I do so whenever I can. This time I'm finally taking the time to play along in a challenge. I'm so excited! So, let's get to it.

The challenge is Color Throwdown #437. Here's out inspiration photo.

Oh, how I love tulips. One of the first signs of Spring, here in Illinois.
But. I didn't go with florals on my card. You see...my husband has a birthday coming up in a couple of weeks, so I needed to make a card for him. I really didn't think he would fully appreciate a "floral-y" card. Anyway, here's what I created with the inspiration colors.

I used a light aqua, yellow and a medium green to create the ink blended sky background. The trees were diecut and layered over that, along with the two little birds (I'm thinking they're Cardinals!). I finished my card with a simple sentiment stamped onto yellow cardstock. All done!
This was fun. I should do this more often. :)

Yes, I've been creating, but seldom have any time to share what I've created. Yikes!

I'm playing along with the current challenge at Happy Little Stampers
CAS Challenge - September 2016 - Watercolour Spritz
Watercolors, all the various forms and techniques, are so much fun to play with. It was difficult to choose which to do! I decided to use my distress ink pads since the colors are so vibrant.

I just smooshed several pads onto my craft sheet, then spritzed them with water. Then, I placed my watercolor paper onto the puddles of ink and moved it around just a bit. It took a few tries to get the look I wanted, but I'm really pleased with the results. Once dry, I sprinkled drops of water from my hand onto the paper, then blotted with a paper towel.
The same technique was used for the die cut leaf, using different colors and different inks (I used Stampin' Up! inks for the leaf). I also stamped the veins onto the leaf AND just because I wanted a little something more....I added a few drops of glossy accents. A sentiment stamped onto a die cut "hill" and my card is complete.

Thanks for stopping in to take a look!
Far, far away.

Sorry...that's the line of movie dialog that came to mind when I glanced at this card a minute ago!

This morning, I searched for a tutorial for making a night sky background (more like a galaxy, really). I knew I'd seen a video by one of my favorite papercrafters, Kristina Werner. I found THIS video tutorial on YouTube and knew I had to give it a try.

I love using water colors, but adding this much black paint to a card panel made me so uncomfortable. This was SO far out of my comfort zone.

Here's what I eventually created...after a little experimenting.

I used almost the same colors that Kristina used, since I knew it worked for her. Then I followed the steps she used in her video. I had NO idea if my attempt at this technique would turn out okay...or a disaster.

Well. I had fun playing around with these dark colors and I'm so happy with the results!

Thanks for taking a look!
I made some time this afternoon to do a little stamping. It was SO nice.
The rectangles in the sketch reminded me of brush strokes, then the varied shades of blue in the Sail On photo....well, I knew I had to do some water coloring. Actually, it's easy to convince me since I love to use any of the water color techniques!

My distress inks were sitting there on my work table, so I used those instead of pulling out my water color set. I have 6 different shades of blue. So. I used the all of them. Just because I could! I just smooshed each ink pad onto an acrylic block, then picked up each color with a wide, flat paint brush. Not too much water, so that my colors would be fairly concentrated. The water colored panel turned out exactly the way I hoped.

Once the panel was dry, I used a word die to cut the word out of this panel. I also used the same die on 3 different blue card stocks, which I layered under the original one. Gluing all of these die cuts was tedious work, since they're so narrow and fairly delicate.

After all that, I really didn't want to stamp a sentiment onto the card front. It just seemed there wasn't a good place to put anything else without detracting from the water colors. I'll just write the remainder of my birthday wishes inside the card.

Well...I've talked for long enough. Thanks for stopping by!
Chirp.I took a much needed "me" day yesterday. One of the things I did was stamp! I've been doing some paper crafting lately, but haven't really had the time to play along in a challenge. This time I'm doing just that.

I chose the challenge over at Crazy 4 Challenges - C4C 334
These beautiful colors just called out to me, since I love greens and purples. Oh, yes.

Don't you think these colors are perfect for some water coloring? Of course you do. And so is the stamp set I chose to use. See?
The look of a sketched image in a stamp. It's something I don't usually choose, but I'm really happy that I picked up this stamp set recently.
Technically, I didn't use water color paint. I used Stampin' Up ink pads, smooshed onto an acrylic block. Using a paint brush I swirled some water into the ink and started painting my little birdie.
The leaves were stamped using another technique that resembles water colors.
I inked the stamp, then spritzed it with water. When I stamped the image, I let the stamp sit on the water color paper for a while. I wanted the ink to have time to really soak into the paper.

You know what? After assembling the card, I decided that the focal panel needed some ink spatters. So. I cut out a stamped image of the bird to mask my finished image. Then covered the remainder of the card with paper scraps.
Spatter, spatter, spatter. Done.

Thanks for stopping by to take a look!
So, this rainy Sunday afternoon was the perfect time to get crafty. Several of my friends have birthday's this month, so I needed to create a few cards. I recently watched a video tutorial on Jennifer McGuire's blog for window panel cards, so I already knew what technique I wanted to use for my cards.
HERE is a link to Jennifer's blog post.

The technique is really very easy and so much fun! Here are the two cards I created.

I remember that this young couple's engagement photos included some pics taken on a farm. So, when I came across this sentiment while browsing my stamp sets it seemed like a great choice for this card.
To get a bit of a distressed look, I used the rock-and-roll inking technique for both the sky and field stamps. After stamping the sky, I swiped some clear Wink of Stella over the sun rays. In real life it looks so sparkly!
It was fun to finally join in on a card challenge, again. :)

Thanks for looking!
I'm writing this post a few days in advance, so that it can go up while I'm spending a Saturday with my stamping buddies. A few times a year we try (and sometime succeed!) in getting the 5 of us together at my home on a Saturday to spend the day stamping, talking, snacking...well, you get the picture. :)
These gatherings bring me so much joy! Well, today the 5 of us are blessed to have another friend joining us. I decided to put together a little treat box for each of my friends, just because they're so important to me.

I found a template HERE on Nichole Heady's blog, for something very easy to create and so versatile.
Nichole created her own pattern on blank cardstock, but I chose to use some thick patterned paper from Tim Holtz. After cutting out each box, I added a little machine stitching around the edges.

Here's what I created.

I chose to use kraft, white and gold as my color scheme. I layered patterned vellum (from SU) onto the front of each box, then added burlap, gold thread, die cut leaves and a mini clothespin over that. Oh, and I swiped my Delicata Golden Glitz ink pad over each clothespin to add a little glow of gold. I could have kept going...buttons, gems etc...but decided to stop before I overloaded these little boxes!
Inside each box I put a few Godiva chocolates (because every stamper *needs* chocolate, you know) and a piece of toile wrapped around various embellishments and tied with a piece of that Stampin Up gold thread.

I hope my friends enjoy these treats as much as I enjoyed making them. We'll see!
Since the recipient reads my blog occasionally, I didn't want to post it on my blog until after Christmas. The basic concept for the album comes from a tutorial on Wilna Furstenberg's blog. HERE is the link to Wilna's blog and video.
As soon as I watched the video, I knew that I wanted to give this a try and I knew exactly who I would create it for. I am so pleased with the results and so happy that I ventured out of my paper crafting "comfort zone" and tried something new!
I used several mediums in creating the album pages. Color mists sprayed through stencils, stamping, ink splatters, etc. Also, I layered the photos over various embellishments and die cut pieces. This was such a labor of love for me! It took about 6 hours from start to finish and was well worth the time. In fact, I would love to make another one!

To protect the privacy of the recipient, I've blurred the faces of everyone in the photos.

Thank you for taking a look!
Just posting, real quick, with a shaker card I created today for a friend. :)
I spent a day at home today and enjoyed it so much. A long walk outdoors early this morning (in our unusually warm December weather!), then breakfast with...coffee! Yum. A great way to begin the day, right?

Let me get back on track. My card.
Even though shaker cards can be a bit of a challenge, they're so much fun to make. Well...it wasn't fun when I messed up the first banner panel. Forgetting to add the clear acetate window, didn't work well to hold the sequins inside. Imagine.

The second attempt? Much better.

I used a mixture of clear sequins and beads in this card. This blue card stock is showing much darker than it actually is. My photo editing software just couldn't seem to get it right.
The card in one of my previous blog posts (HERE) was chosen as the winner at the City Crafter Challenge Blog that week, so I won the Guest Designer spot for this weeks challenge. I'm SO excited!

Here are the details.
Our theme this week, at the City Crafter Challenge Blog week 292 is The Heat is On - Use heat embossing on your card or project. Take a look at this clever graphic provided by Kirsty!
I had several ideas tumbling around in my brain, but this one came to me while I was outdoors for a brisk walk last weekend. There's something about the great outdoors (and a long walk) that helps me focus and get creative.

Anyway, here's my card! To see a larger pic, just click on the photo.
This card turned out just as I had imagined. Believe me, that doesn't usually happen.
After die cutting the birch tree panel from kraft card stock, I took my Versamark pad and swiped it across the areas of the trees that I wanted to emboss in white. Once I poured on the embossing powder, I saw that I had covered more of the trunk areas than I intended to. That was easy to remedy. I just took a small paintbrush and swept away what I didn't want. It worked like a charm!

My sentiment is also heat embossed. Oh, I'm not sure if you will be able to see it...but, I took my clear Wink of Stella and ran it along the areas of the tree trunks that are not embossed. Just for a little more winter sparkle!

I hope you'll play along with us this week. Thanks for stopping by and a big Thank You to Kirsty for inviting me to guest design this week. Such an honor!
I'm sharing a very simple card that I created a couple of weeks ago. Yup, just now finding the time to post it. :(

It's such a simple and easy card to make, but I sure like how it turned out!

The card base and the sentiment panel are both Blackberry Bliss card stock from Stampin' Up!
For the panel, I heat embossed the sentiment using SU gold embossing powder. Once that was cool, I swiped my Versamark pad along the edges of the panel then poured EP over that, too. A little heat and my card was nearly done. Of course I used foam tape to adhere the panel. Because, well...I love dimension. :)

That's it!
Well. You know how difficult it can be to create a masculine card. Not this time, though!
The challenge to use something "wood" (and those masculine colors) was just the jump start I needed, to use some of these wood slices that I picked up on clearance at a local store...mmmm....probably 5 or 6 years ago. They were SO different than any other "embellishment" I'd seen before. Actually, they were in the home accents section of the floral aisle.
So. I created a shaker card, using some patterned paper for the background, clear acetate for the window...then popped in some wood slices and a few clear beads before attaching the die-cut frame and window to my card base.
A simple sentiment finished my card. I considered not even adding a sentiment to the front. Still not sure if I should have left it off.

Ahhh...it feels good to be crafting and blogging again!

It's my 3rd (and final) post for today. Like I said in my previous posts, I like the current sketch so much that I made three cards for Freshly Made Sketches #198.
Take a look!
So versatile, right? I had loads of ideas, but not enough time to use them all. Such a dilemma. :)

Here's my final entry for the challenge.
This background has a lot going on, so I kept my layers simpler than on my first 2 cards. I couldn't resist added a glossy little heart though. :)

Thank you for taking the time to stop by!
